Disability is not Inability

(DINI Awards)

The DINI Awards provide an avenue for celebrating outstanding achievements by persons with disabilities across Uganda. The awards have also been important in the showcasing of persons and institutions that have risen to stardom in their areas of influence, inspiring change and fostering inclusivity. This year's 2024 edition honored a diverse group of awardees, including schools, hospitals, entrepreneurs, and sports icons, who have demonstrated exceptional success in their professions and communities.

During the 2024 event, a total of six awards were given to deserving recipients, with over 100 attendees, both physical and virtual. These awards celebrated these achievements and also acted like a beacon of hope and a call to action for more inclusion and support for PWDs.

Moving forward, the 2025 DINI Awards will be done in a more participatory way, with open voting for award winners. That is bound to significantly boost participation, increasing reach for an estimated audience of 1,000. With the opening of participation, this should hopefully mean an increased awareness and decrease in the stigma associated with disability while cultivating an appreciation of valued contributions by PWDs. This evolution marks the step toward greater social impact and fosters an inclusive environment for all.
